1926 Delage DI Series 3. LHD four seater open tourer.
Skiff body with decking & boat tail. Russet over black wings. Brown leather upholstery & carpets, vee windscreen, clever concealed hood & frame. Folding wood deck rear hatch with two-part tonneau cover, front and rear.
Two Delage models formed the main production of Delage cars in the 1920s, namely the 4-cylinder DI and the 6-cylinder DM series.
Launched in 1924, two years before this car offered today, the DI was a well specified car, powered by a 2.1 litre overhead valve engine with 4-speed gearbox and 4-wheel brakes. Selecting reverse is intriguing for it is found one movement forward of the first gear which is already selected, so in fact manoeuvring in tight or any spaces between 1st and reverse is a doddle with the clutch depressed only once. Exceptional performance was noted in the day, riding comfortably with light and responsive steering, built to a high standard and capable of handling rough roads of the period – as well as today…
This 4 seat tourer was purchased by an agricultural engineer for David Brown Tractors around the turn of the century as a stalled restoration project – the owner then deceased – with the new leather upholstery renewed but everything else to complete. Every other aspect of the car was restored by the present owner, which was then ready for the road in 2009 – an album of restoration photos on file. Only offered for sale due to the owner's poor mobility, no longer able to climb aboard with ease.
An age-related registration number was obtained and the car is offered with V5C
