Summary

Having now taken part in several hill climbs over the last 2 years, the owner, in his late 70s, has decided that he has done enough trailering and hill-climbing, and although he loves the car, thinks it needs to be driven by someone younger and more capable than him. With the right driver, this car should be a winner.

Consequently the car with recently serviced trailer is up for sale.

Asking £25,000

Origins of this car

This competition car was built in the early 1990s by VSCC Racer, Gary Clare.

In 2004 it passed into the hands of well known Irish racer Ken McEvoy.

He immediately began a programme of improvement to refresh the car and to improve its performance and looks. The engine was originally built to a high specification by Tim Myall at Pigsty Racing, father of Alex Myall who currently runs Pigsty Racing

A new body was crafted by Keith Roach at Roach Manufacturing

From 2005 onwards the car was raced and hill-climbed successfully at many Irish Motorsport events as the records with times - on file - show.

In 2019 this car was bought by VSCC President Simon Blakeney-Edwards and was raced extensively by his step-son Archie Waterfield. During this period it had a reputation as a fast car.

Recent near £10,000 spent with engine rebuild

The current owner bought this car in 2023 to resume his hill climbing, which had been interrupted for a few years due to illness.

He immediately set about improving the car and getting it back to top condition.

The engine was stripped, 2 damaged timing gears replaced and as the white metal bearings looked worn, the crankshaft and con rods were upgraded to a Phoenix 1 1/2” crankshaft with shell bearings. A modern lightweight starter motor was fitted to make life as easy as possible.

The flywheel and clutch were lightened.

The brakes re-lined and new cables fitted.

Front stub axle and track rod steering arm were replaced. All axle components crack tested.

A small racing battery replaced the standard one.

A new smaller and lighter fuel tank fitted.

All wiring checked and replaced where necessary.

A new full size tonneau cover and a ½ size racing cover were made.

The car is on 15” wheels with Dunlop Racing tyres.

With help from the PWAC, the original identity was established and the DVLA issued a V5C with registration number EXS 627. This makes testing on public roads so much easier (and legal!)

In summary almost £10,000 was spent and the car is in better performance and reliability condition than it has ever been.

The serviced trailer with electric winch is included in the sale

A custom tailor-made made trailer accompanies the car. An electric winch has been fitted to make loading and unloading a job that can be accomplished single handed. The whole rig is easy to operate and the trailer, with car on board, can fit in a standard size garage.
